The Sales Assistant Sessions: Tailoring with a twist at Tommy Hilfiger

While in the midst of Summer our fashion forward retailers are already looking ahead to the Fall. This week we head to the high end of the high street and catch up with Tommy Hilfiger Manager Richard Bebb; perfect timing to catch their amazing Summer sale. We’re talking men’s tailoring, women’s Summer collections and what’s in store for us next season.

Name: Richard Bebb

Position: Manager

What can we expect to see from the menswear Fall collection?: Our pre Fall collection is very much outwear orientated; we’ll be seeing a pallet of green, purple and navy. It’s all about layering next season, so padded jackets with a heavy knit underneath make for a great contrast – we call this the Tommy Twist.

Tommy Hilfiger is renowned for its classic, preppy look.  What’s your take on formalwear?: We like to play around with the concept of what formalwear is- as a brand we pride ourselves on not being afraid to mix things up. This means swapping a pair of suit trousers for some chinos, adding a brightly coloured tie or some quirky socks – that’s what sets us apart from other formalwear brands. For Fall we’ll be implementing bow ties into the range – people often think these are strictly reserved for suits but they can look great with a smart blazer and pair of chinos.

What are your key pieces for menswear?: Most of our key pieces are incorporated into our sportswear collection – this is what Tommy Hilfiger is known for. It’s the basics which people will keep coming back for, our classic flag T-shirts and polo shirts will always do well for us because they’re strong staple items for men.

What have been your key trends for women this season?: Each season is divided into six drops or collections if you like. For Summer the Santa Barbara collection with its flashes of bright yellow- usually a hard sell- has done exceptionally well. The Hollywood collection has seen a mix of bold and clashing prints as seen in our Zoe printed blazer  whereas the Malibu drop is very Summer holiday oriented with lots of light colours and fabrics.

Is any one collection doing particularly well?: Strangely enough this season they all seem to have performed equally well, our Hilfiger collection will always be a favourite though. This is the classic red white and blue which we are famous for.  The Zaina Top– one of our new arrivals- is going to be a big seller. The back detail is a great feature which has proved really popular with our customers so far.
