Adam Walker: The Male Stylist
I think my style is an attempt at creating a gentleman’s look that incorporates modern elements within classic styles. I realise that sounds pretty complex but it’s often the details of an outfit that make it eye catching, so I use small contemporary twists to help my outfits stand out.
I love the different elements of men’s tailoring. Suits, blazers, waistcoats and shirts all play a vital role in my wardrobe and I love mixing them up to get new designs. One of the biggest mistakes men tend to make with tailoring is that they tend to make it look like uniform. By combining different styles and adding your own personal touches you can make very smart looks that are great ambassadors for your own style.
At the same time, keeping it simple is just as powerful. I love Mad Men and if there’s one thing that program taught us, it’s that simple styles are often the most powerful. Being too complex tends to remove any statement your clothing makes.
Regardless of current trends and designs, your personal style should always be something you’re comfortable and confident wearing. If you don’t feel good in it, then chances are you won’t look the part. Go back to basics and find some core elements of fashion you love, then build on them. Use subtle accessories and new colours, look at celebrity takes on your favourite clothing and check out fashion bloggers. Often your own tastes are the ones that look best on you.
