Spring into fun fashion

“Pop culture”. Irreverence. Flippancy. Call it what you will, there seems to be an undeniable sense of whimsy in the air this S/S- and it looks set to continue into the next season, too. Jeremy Scott provided the epitome of the fun fashion trend at Moschino A/W 2014, where high fashion took on a decidedly trashy edge. Consumer culture was glorified with homages to everything from McDonalds to Spongebob. Ashish has long been a fan of bright colours and clashing prints, themes which have been as omnipresent as ever in his latest shows. Even the normally super chic are at it, with splashes of embellishment and adornment popping up on the runways of the likes of Celine and Erdem in the past few seasons.

Is this nothing more than a backlash against the current zeitgeist for pared back, minimalistic fashion? A flip of the bird to pool sliders, Breton stripes and head to toe monochrome? Whatever the reason, it can’t be denied that this season, fashion’s getting fun…

Topshop’s ice cream print jumper provides a super wearable avenue into the trend. The perfect transeasonal piece, wear with skinny jeans and boots now then a flippy Summer skirt come the warmer weather.

After something brighter? Motel’s printed playsuit is all kinds of wonderful, with a Summery palm tree print in vivid raspberry. Lush.

More of a toe dipper than a head first diver? Edge your way into the look with some subtle accessorising- this Urban Outfitters head wrap is perfect for adding a subtle splash of print to lift an otherwise simplistic look.

Combine print and embellishment with this striking X-ray flower skirt with it’s origami style shape. Gorgeous with a crisp white tee, statement necklace and clashing colour pop heels.

And for the fellas…

Keep it crisp by clashing similar prints in a single piece- tartans work especially well. This Topman shirt is just the right side of trashy; team with red or green chinos to break all the style rules…

As the sun begins to finally reappear, break out these River Island floral shorts. We like them styled with a long sleeve white shirt and colourful suede shoes. But that’s just us…
