Founded in 2009, Pretty Green is a relative newbie in the fashion game. In their own words a “straight talking, up-front clothing brand”, shoppers can’t fail to pick up on the company’s strong 90’s references and modish, grungy styling. Such a look should come as no surprise- Pretty Green’s founder is none other than Cool Britannia icon and Oasis front man Liam Gallagher. A quick look round the store and it all falls into place; classic parkas are nestled alongside polo shirts and dark denims, Desert boots the footwear of choice. We took a few moments of Sales Assistant Peter Elliott’s day to discuss the brand’s roots and why it’s the latest shopping paradise for wannabe Gallaghers…
Name: Peter Elliott
Position: Sales Assistant
Who is your style icon?: I’m a huge music fan so I’d have to say someone like Miles Kane- classic.
What’s the idea behind Pretty Green?: We obviously have a really strong musical vibe so there’s always a huge focus on that: the name actually comes from a Jam song called Pretty Green. I’m a big fan of Liam Gallagher and Oasis and I think the clothes really tie in with that genre of music- Liam has a huge influence on each and every piece. We stock a variety of styles from T-shirts to tailoring so there really is something for everyone.
So do individual pieces each have their own musical influences?: Many of them do, yes. Our Lennon jacket, for example, was inspired by John Lennon and is similar to what he would have worn; it’s definitely one of our most iconic pieces.
How would you describe the style of the brand?: If anything I would say alternative- certainly not mainstream.
What can we expect to see in store for Spring/Summer?: Lots of T-shirts and light jackets. A classic example is the Lennon jacket and Desert boots– they’ve both been very popular so far this season. Our Spring/Summer campaign focuses around Summer road trips so there’s a lot of lightweight pieces which are easy to throw on, such as our Sunbury blazer.
What would you put together for a classic Pretty Green daytime look?: I’d go for some dark jeans, a light polo shirt and some light brown Desert boots.
Finally, what’s your favourite song playing in store at the moment?: The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil.
