Screw spring/summer, it’s all about autumn/winter. The winter weather may not have even hit its peak this season, but we are already lusting over what we are going to be wearing next time round. The International Fashion Weeks have been seriously kicked off by NYFW and they have certainly delivered so far. Think Alexander Wang’s urban spin is predictable? Think again. Sportswear hints at Prabal Gurung? Say what! Things just got interesting…
The King of New York – Alexander Wang
No shock… Wang knows how to do urban, yet we fall for it every time. It was conceptual and we definitely think his research for Balenciaga is working wonders for his own label. Inspired by New York essentials, outerwear and footwear were the stand out pieces. From reworked shearling, suede puffers to sartorial tailoring for the modern girl – think lipstick, notebook and tablet pockets and in true Wang form, it was all about fabric texture and manipulation. To seal the deal, high tech, heat activated leather changed colour under air vents. Blown away once more…
Keep it wearable, it sells – Band of Outsiders
We might have been blown away with Wang’s high tech extravaganza in Brooklyn, but there was something about Band of Outsiders offering. With the perfect amount of wit, there was nothing silly about the wearable pieces. From plaid to duffle coats, with a dose of winter florals… This collection is definitely one for the everyday wardrobe.
All things layered – Prabal Gurung
This collection has been big news… YES, THERE WAS A STREAKER! Look past the streaker and the collection deserves every piece of recognition. More sportswear than his usual red carpet elegance, he spiced up his draping roots by layering silk with canvas, shearling and oversized knits. Popping crimsons added an expected yet delicate twist to the street style palette… His versatility continues.
The street style winner– Helmut Lang
Want to achieve the ultimate model off duty look? Look no further. Gracing every contemporary department store, Helmut Lang certainly delivered. From slouchy, fur knits (yep, the oversized knit is here to stay people) to cocoon shaped shearling, this married couple know how to appeal to every women’s wardrobe.
And finally, the round-up
It might be too early to predict the autumn/winter 14 trends, however, we love what we are seeing. One thing is for certain, shearling and oversized knits are here to stay (we will take a Wang shearling please). To get your slice of the action, get ahead of the trends and bring next season’s colours and silhouettes into your wardrobe now. Think oversized blazers, crimson hints and furry knits for the perfect transitional pieces. We have selected the best pieces for you… Oh and maybe ourselves!
