The Sales Assistant Sessions: Miss Selfridge make 90’s children of us all

Lover of all things grunge or more of a tea dress and frilly sock type? Whatever decade you’re channelling this S/S, high street hero Miss Selfridge has something for every wardrobe. Today’s Sales Assistant Session comes from brand guru Natalie Armstrong and gives us the lowdown on the new season trends and how to style them to perfection…

Name: Natalie Armstrong

Position: Senior Sales Advisor/Supervisor

How would you describe your personal style?: I’m really relaxed with my style; definitely a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl. I do love getting dressed up when it comes to the weekend, though! You can’t go wrong with a little T-shirt dress, some tights and biker boots.

Do you have any style icons?: Mollie from the Saturdays and Olivia Palermo from the Hills – I love her style.

What are the key pieces for this season at Miss Selfridge?: We’re just starting to build our new Spring/Summer Collection which is seeing a lot of light knit wear and light denim being introduced. One of our new trends for the season is Tea Dance which embraces light pastels, feminine and floaty pieces- perfect for spring nights. 90’s Child is also going to be big next season, with a focus on grungy pieces with a twist.
Further down the line we’ve got some really beautiful things lined up. I can’t wait for our high Summer pieces to drop as we’re really shaking it up with lots of Indian and tribal inspired pieces; expect lots of colour, lots of embellishment- something a bit different from the usual Summer trends. If you check out our Instagram you’ll see some insider sneak peeks of what’s to come…

Any bestsellers so far?: Our Drape Front Scort Playsuit has been really popular so far, everyone’s loving it! It’s great for a Friday night out with a chunky necklace and a pair of heels. We’ve sold loads of the Abstract Tee Dress as well, which can easily be dressed down for a more casual look- just pair with tights and biker boots.

Any recommendations for a casual daytime look?: I’d suggest shopping within our 90’s Child trend; try styling a light knit, such as this White Fisherman’s Jumper, with a pair of Mom Jeans. Bliss.

Great look, we love a splash of 90’s fashion inspo! Where do the Miss Selfridge designers draw their inspiration from?: It varies from season to season but our Vintage Collection is always a massive source of  inspiration. It’s becoming more and more popular with customers, too.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?: It’s fast paced and you never know who’s going to walk in the door. It could be someone looking for an outfit for a big birthday or an engagement party; they’re my favourite type of customer as I know they’re buying a piece they’ll have memories of for years to come.

And finally, what’s your favourite song being played in store right now?: Bondax- Giving it all. I can’t get enough of it!

Sound of the Summer!! We can think of no better way to spend the rest of the day than listening to some laid back tunes and shopping our favourite pieces from the new collections.
