Wednesday again and it’s time for a quick hop, skip and a jump to our weekly Sessions with the lovely Sales Assistants on our high street! This week we’ve checked into Miss Selfridge’s land of whimsical fashion and punchy on-trend looks. Thanks to the fabulooous Rachel, we’ve got the inside track on the pieces hitting the hot spots and just how to style them to get those heads turning. So strap in ladies- this one’s a goodie!
Name: Rachel Todd
How would you describe your personal style?: It’s quite Miss Selfridge; I’m quite a girly girl, so I tend to wear things such as blouses and skater skirts or little floaty dresses. Recently I like to team them up with Converse and a biker jacket to toughen them up and keep in with the trends. Biker boots are also really cute with a little dress, especially for coming into the new season- it adds a fresh twist to a girly outfit.
Who is your style icon?: Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung are amazing. I like their girly, preppy style and find it very wearable.
What are your key pieces and bestsellers from Miss Selfridge this season?: Miss Selfridge tends to run with two different styles for the customers differing needs; this season we have the going-out, bodycon, high glamour apparel as well as the floaty, whimsical, almost vintage girly style. We try to mix and match from both types of styles to create a unique look.
We’ve found that the basic midi’s have been selling really well, such as this salt and pepper midi dress. I would probably style them up with a statement necklace and a cool jacket with Cons, for a more edgy girl look.
The distressed slim fit boyfriend jeans have been quite big at the moment, and from the looks of things are only going to get bigger for the coming season!
They’re great to pair with casual items for daytime, such as vans, a little tee and blazer. Then for night they’re so good to style up, with heels and this embellished cami- try the silver big bead top. It creates a really good look, with a great mixture of glamour and style; fab for cocktails with the girls!
Basics? Miss Selfridge styling takes them from drab to fab!
The casual jersey stuff is really popular this season- in particular the basic tees and cropped vests. Our denim shorts always sell like hotcakes too! This pair of mid-wash crochet hem shorts have been a bestseller and they look great teamed up with some of our much loved-basics- a white tee and big necklace would look awesome with these.
Also the embellished knicker shorts look great teamed up with a basic charcoal oversized vest; this adds a cool vibe to what could otherwise be an overly girly look.
Finally what has been your best moment in retail so far?: My best moments are when you feel you have genuinely helped someone. So, for example, last week we had a lady in who wanted clothes for T in the Park, but had just had a baby and wasn’t sure what to wear to feel comfortable. We all ran around looking for the best outfits to make her feel good and happy, such as skater skirts and maxi’s. She was really pleased and thanked us so much; it was a great feeling to genuinely help someone. Also I just love coming into work as we have such a great team here at Miss Selfridge- all the girls are so lovely, we’re like one big family!
Wowser- those hot tips are awesome, thanks Rachel!! We’re itching to get down to Miss Selfridge this minute and pick up some cute basics and embellished pieces- or maybe some boyfriend jeans to see us through to the new season in style.
