Heading up this week’s Blogger Showcase are our favourite fun loving twosome, Shope and Shore Delano of Londons Closet. In their feature they discuss their route into the industry, personal style and making it in the big bad blogging world…
Blogger lover? Don’t miss our chat with Tamara from The Glam and Glitter.
Having made a name for yourselves as the sweetest cool kids in the blogging space, you’ve built up a huge following. But how did it all begin?
Shore: We actually started individual blogs, and then we decided to join forces- I left my blog and joined Shope. I think the main reason I started a blog was just because I loved fashion! Not so much because I was following the latest catwalk trends, but because I just loved putting together my own outfits.
Shope: I was inspired to blog by reading other blogs. Seeing other girls confident enough to showcase their personal style online was amazing!
How do you find working together on the blog? Are there ever disagreements?
Shore: I really enjoy working with Shope; I can’t really imagine working by myself. Disagreements are rare- the only thing we disagree about is Shope wanting to get up too early for my liking to do blog posts! Working together is great, as it means you always have a second opinion and a photographer on stand-by. The fact that my partner is my sister means that I can ask her to take as many pictures as I want until I find enough that I like!
Shope: Haha, yeah the only disagreement is me banging Shore’s door down for her to wake up so we can shoot. It’s the best working together, you always have someone to tell you how you look and give completely honest opinions throughout the whole ‘post’ process from the outfit, to the photo’s, to the actual text.
You’re studying at different Universities now; how has this changed your blogging strategy?
Shore: I blog much less now I am at uni because Shope keeps her camera in Nottingham, but it means that when we are both home we always take lots of blog posts! It’s actually quite cool sometimes, as I check our blog and see a new post from Shope with some of the new clothes she has ☺
Shope: Yeah, since I have the camera, the frequency of my posts in comparison to Shore’s is different, but such is life! Maybe I should buy Shore a camera for Christmas…
Despite being twins, you have unique senses of style. How would you say they differ from one another?
Shore: I’d definitely say that Shope’s style is more unique, and individual! She experiments with outfits much more than I do. That being said, she wears a lot more black than I do!
Shope: Shore is a lot more girly than me– I envy that on her! She can rock skirts and court heels in a way that I just can’t!
What are your styles influenced by?
Shore: I’m definitely influenced by celebrity styles and high street fashion! I love going online shopping, going on the celebrity style tab and trying to recreate celebrity looks with high street pieces.
Shope: Other bloggers, Street Style and Tumblr. My three main sources of inspiration when it comes to my style.
Do you look to each other for fashion advice?
Shore: Occasionally. I will always ask Shope what she thinks of my outfits, or which outfit she prefers. However I don’t always listen to her opinion haha ☺
Shope: Most of the time me and Shore actually disagree on what looks best. If Shore said she doesn’t like something I’m wearing, it almost makes me want to wear it more!
If you could shop with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
Shore: Ashley Madekwe, she always looks stunning! And I love her outfits. I’ve been following her blog for a long time now, and her outfits always look effortlessly beautiful.
Shope: Phoebe Lettice. She is just such a cool cat! She has such a fun and relaxed vibe about her, and I love her recent collaboration with Illustrated People.
What advice would you give to budding blogger duos?
Shore: A big ‘do’ I think would be to try and offer your readers two different types of styles. If your readers can see how your styles differ from each other, they can draw inspiration from both or one of you. I think variety is what makes teams or blogging duos successful!
Shope: Shore definitely hit the nail on the head with this one! Variety is definitely key, it’s giving your readers double the dose of style inspiration, but on one platform!
What advice can you give to bloggers who are aiming for the success that London’s Closet has had?
Shore: Just keep going. It’s hard blogging if you don’t have many followers, or if you are not getting many comments, but keep going. Once your blog starts to grow and develop so will your style, and you will eventually gain a following! Also, be in it for the right reasons- blog because you love fashion! And if you do then the recognition and success should follow ☺
Shope: I agree with Shore. Also keep your blog looking as clean and well designed as you can! Big bright photo’s and uncluttered sidebars. Keep contact information at easy reach– as a brand trying to collaborate with you, having to search around to find your email address will quickly lead to moving onto the next blogger! Also enjoy it– a lot of our posts are fun and we are always excited about something or the other. Have fun with it and the success should follow.
Having received Awards for your blogging, what advice can you give to others who are hoping to bag themselves one of these coveted titles?
Shore: I think it’s really hard to give specific advice– it’s easier for Shope and I to stand out as we blog together, and we are sisters! So in that respect I may say have something that makes your blog unique to you, whether that be a quirky layout or your vibrant style! Blog awards are fabulous, and it’s great to get that recognition– but if you haven’t won an award before you shouldn’t be disheartened ☺
Shope: Totally, don’t blog with the aim of winning an award. As I said in the other question, it will come eventually ☺ Just keep consistent and don’t give up! One key tip is make sure there is something about your blog that is unique to only your blog! There are hundreds of fashion blogs out there, what makes yours worthy of a Company Award? ☺
What do you think about the new version of Mallzee?
Shore: I have always been a fan of Mallzee, and I have loved watching it grow and develop ☺. I love the swipe right to like something, and swipe left if it’s not quite to your taste- it’s great that the things you like can be ‘saved for later’. I also love the new brands that you have on board, and the fact that it’s so easy to find what you’re looking for. The colour, price and brand toggle means that narrowing down the search for that perfect dress is made that much easier!
Shope: Mallzee has seriously gone from strength to strength. My favourite feature is the ‘swipe’. Swipe left if something is not to your taste, or swipe right to save– I’ve found myself many a time on the train just going through the app and swiping away. My wishlist for this season can be found on my list of saved items on Mallzee!
