It’s all about workwear this week at Mallzee HQ so for our latest Sales Assistant Session it made perfect sense to hit the high end of the high street and pay Karen Millen a visit. We chat to Style Advisor Marisa who gives us the lowdown on how to give your classic office wardrobe a fun, feminine feel…

Office wear is a hot topic this week at Mallzee, what are your key pieces for the Summer 9-5?: It seems to be all about the cut this season; our lace panelled top gives your outfit a fresh, young feel but teaming it with a classic trouser means it’s still office appropriate. We’re also seeing a lot of pops of the limey citrus colour which is great for brightening up a monochrome outfit.
What are the essential items a young professional would need for their first week at the office?: That’s a tough one! I suppose it depends on their job, you’d want to play it safe on your first day and see what everyone else is wearing. Saying that, you can’t go wrong with a classic shift dress; our Sporty colourblock dress is perfect for pulling in a splash of colour but keeping a sophisticated feel. Our customers seem to be moving away from the classic black trouser which was once the office essential and towards funkier colours; the turquoise cropped cigarette trouser teamed with a black or white shirt would be a perfect Summer combination.
What are your top tips for keeping office wear young and fresh?: Don’t be afraid to add colour! We’re definitely not seeing as many people looking for suits anymore, our customers seem to enjoy pulling their own looks together and being a bit more adventurous. Even splashes of neon- if done right- can look great. If neon isn’t your thing muted tones can add a contemporary edge to classic work wear.
What would you recommend for an office to party look?: Our black tunic dress is so easy to dress up or dress down so that’s the obvious choice for me. Switch the flats for some coloured heels, add a collared necklace and you’re good to go!
