Victoria Magrath, she of pastel hued hair, the perfect pout and a lustworthy wardrobe is the latest fashion maven to feature in our Blogger Showcases. Here she chats us through the evolution of In The Frow and explains just what it takes to be a top blogger…
Hey Victoria! We think In The Frow is a great blog name. Can you explain to our readers why you picked it?
Thank you! Well it originated from an Alanis Morissette song and lyrics – “I’m in the Front Row with popcorn”. I wanted to make it shorter and more fashion orientated so Front Row became Frow. I loved how short and snappy it was and it just seemed different to everyone else’s blog name.
You’re a fashion retailing lecturer; how do you find time to fit blogging into your busy schedule?
I don’t really have much time- I work every day and then blog in the evenings and weekends. I don’t have much time to do many other things, but I believe that hard work pays off, so hopefully I’ll get to a stage where I can blog full time.
Who is your biggest style influence?
I adore Victoria Beckham and Gwen Stefani but I also get so much influence from my favourite bloggers and instagrammers.
We’re pretty obsessed with your hair. Do you feel like it’s a big part of your identity now?
Yes, I would probably say it is the key to my identity now. So many people recognise me for my hair, so I love it.
What advice would you give to bloggers about carving out an original blogging style?
I would say that you need something unique and you can’t just copy someone elses style. Do it your way, with your own ideas and people will love you for it.
Your blog has been featured in lots of amazing places. What advice would you give to bloggers who are trying to get their blog recognised?
Thank you! I would say to utilise social media as much as you possibly can! Social media can take you places and that has hugely helped me to gather a following.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever been given?
The best career advice would probably be from my Mum- just go for it. Whenever I come to her with a new idea, she always just tells me to go for it and put my all into it.
You’re a fashion doctorate grad (we’re impressed!). Do you think having studied fashion at an advanced level has helped with your blogging?
Definitely yes. It has helped me gain so much confidence as well as writing skills and a professional way of speaking with people.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Typical day would include a wake up at 7am and a quick 30 minutes to get ready. Blog for 90 minutes. Get to work and work until 5pm. Head home, turn on my computer and blog all evening, with a quick break for tea. Head to bed around 1am.
What does the future hold for In The Frow?
At the moment I’m working with Trekamerica on their competition to win a holiday to America for 2 weeks and I’m also working hard on my Youtube channel- Inthefrow.
Finally, we’ve all had them…what’s your biggest fashion disaster?
Biggest fashion disaster would probably be when I used to wear tiny clips in my hair all the way down the middle of my head like some sort of dinosaur. I was 8 though, so I’ll let myself off
