Well thank heavens for that- just in time to pull us out of our seemingly insatiable January blues, along come the Golden Globes to delight our senses and give us some mega red carpet crushes to kick off 2015. Taking place last night in the Beverly Hilton in LA, the ‘do proved an undeniably glittery start to Awards season which taught us some valuable fashion lessons for the New Year- notepads at the ready, here are the biggest takeaways from the Golden Globes 2015 best dressed…

2014 v. 2015- who wore Golden Globes fashion best? Find out here.

Sparkle is for life, not just for Christmas

Thought your beloved sequin tops and glitter dresses must be confined to the back of the wardrobe post-festive season? Think again. Diane Kruger, Dakota Johnson and Michelle Monaghan prove a splash of sparkle is always appropriate, especially when there’s a special occasion in sight…

It’ll be all bright on the night

Pastels for Spring? Groundbreaking. No, our favourite leading ladies steered well clear of subtler hues and instead opted for punchy head to toe brights to get the cameras flashing- and we loved it. Major props to Girls’ Allison Williams in Armani Prive, Jenna Dewan Tatum in Emilio Pucci and Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney.

The only way to wear trousers on the red carpet? Like a boss.

Just when we thought we couldn’t love Emma Stone any more, she goes and pulls this Lanvin lovely out of the bag, perfectly accessorised with killer points and just rolled out of bed hair. Can trousers ever beat a killer dress on the red carpet? With the backing of Miss Stone, along with Lorde in Narciso Rodriguez, we’d say the answer’s a resounding yes.

If in doubt, go big

Need a show stopping look? No probs. When the chips are down and you can’t decide which look to go for, always go big. Big silhouette, big thigh high split, big embellishment… big headline. Just ask J-Lo and Jemima Kirke in all their shimmering caped awesomeness.
