February is all about fashion with The Grammys, The Elle Style Awards, New York Fashion Week, The BAFTAS and now we can embrace London Fashion Week, which kicks off today. LFW is one of the most anticipated weeks of the year for anyone in the fashion industry, and at Mallzee we are very excited to see some of our favourite retailers putting on a show, literally.
River Island, who collaberated with Rihanna on its collection this season, is staging the catwalk for the first time at LFW this year. Bosses for the company worked with the British Fashion Council to secure the place at London Fashion Week and they will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Topshop Unique who have showed there every year since 2001.
Topshop Unique – Spring/Summer 2012 show at London Fashion Week
Their show attracted a lot of press last year, with ‘young’ fashion starlets such as Niaomi Campbell, Ellie Goulding and Olivia Palermo gracing the front row. The Topshop website will stream the Unique Autumn/Winter 2013 show live on February 17, and we at Mallzee look forward to seeing the new quirky collection.
J-Crew, an American high street label has also had huge success off the back of New York Fashion Week, where they showed for the fourth year, this week. River Island will aim to follow in these brands’ footsteps.
Whistles are debuting at LFW 2013, staging an intimate salon style show, also on February 17. Whistles look forward to showcasing their collections in front of the international press, as well as UK press.
H&M are not far behind River Island and Topshop, with plans to debut at Paris Fashion Week at the end of the month. The Swedish company have hosted fashion week events in previous years but have never staged a catwalk show of their own before. With high street stores taking over the catwalks are we seeing more accessible fashion becoming key as purses continue to be empty?

Don’t get us wrong we love seeing the new Marc Jacobs, Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang collections in magazines and drooling over them, but we find the prospect of our favourite mid-market retailers collections being shown at LFW very exciting as they are more in our price range.
