Kitsch lover? Ditsy print queen? Well do read on, as this week’s Sales Assistant Session comes direct from Cath Kidston to bring you a hefty dose of all things colourful, cute and Christmassy. In need of a stocking filler or two? No worries, consider your Christmas gifting sorted…
Name: Thelma Kelly
Position: Sales assistant
How would you describe your personal style?: Anything goes! I’m generally pretty colourful; I just don’t do dark colours. I love patterns, although it sometimes looks like I got dressed in the dark ha!
Who is your style icon?: This is probably far from the standard answer involving celebrities of some sort but I genuinely take my inspiration from everyday people. Simply walking along the street and seeing someone who’s well dressed often provides the best source of inspiration for me. They’re my true style icons.
What are the key pieces this season?: Personally, I just love our mushroom skirt. Love the length, love the print- just love it! That aside, all the Christmas gifts we have in just now are really cute. The paper chains are always a favourite and, actually, the mushroom print collection is a big seller! The print’s really strong so we’ve rolled it out across homewards, such as these mugs, as well as clothing.
Any best sellers you can recommend for the festive period?: Snuggly pyjamas and nightwear, certainly. Our cosmetic bags and mugs have been flying out the door as customers search for the perfect stocking fillers- they really seem to appeal to everyone and are a safe bet if you’re unsure of what to buy. I was actually hearing from a customer the other day how she was in to buy her “Christmas mug” which I thought was so sweet. Be it a mug or pyjamas, many of our customers have a particular item they love to receive every year.
What’s your favourite thing about working in retail?: Talking to people. Creating displays is always fun, too, but there’s nothing better than talking to people. I couldn’t handle a job in an office; I need to be interacting with people and everyone who works in the shop is really relaxed and friendly so it’s great.
Lastly, any insider styling tips for this Christmas?: Never wear pyjamas outside. If you can get yourself up to go to the shops you can at least pull on a pair of trackie bottoms, Christmas or not!
Ha! Well said Thelma, although it takes a helluva lot to coax us out of either our jammies OR our houses at Christmas. We’ll be staying indoors and shopping online this Winter, do join us…
